5 injured, properties destroyed in Akure fire disaster


AT least five persons sustained serious injuries, while properties worth millions of Naira were destroyed in a fire incident from a gas explosion that occurred in Akure, the. Ondo State capital.

The inferno, which happened on Arakale Road on Saturday night, was said to have started from a gas outlet on the road.
Eyewitness account said the incident started around 7.30 p.m at the gas outlet beside Saint Thomas’ Anglican Church on the popular Arakale Road.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the fire might have been caused by some of the cylinders containing gas, which was said to be leaking.
A woman, who witnessed the incident, explained that she started hearing the odour of leaking gas around 7.20 p.m and heard a sound of gas explosion around 7.30p.m.

She said immediately she heard the sound of the explosion, people started to scamper for safety thinking it was a bomb explosion.
