Armed robbery foiled at Gauteng mall

A group of armed men attempted to rob a Pick n Pay store at the Maponya Mall in Soweto on Wednesday morning.
Gauteng police said that the seven robbers entered the back of the store as store workers were clocking in for work. The mall security were alerted to the presence of the robbers and a shootout ensued between the two groups.

The robbers fled the store. No injuries were reported.
According to Times Live, it is the second time that the mall has been targeted by robbers this year. In September, a cash box was stolen from two security guards at a Pick n Pay paypoint in the mall.

South Africa has seen a spate of mall robberies in the last few months with a number of malls in Cape Town being hit on multiple occassions.(news.iafrica.com)
